MAY DAY REPERCUSSIONS
Following May Day, "Mubarak Announces 30% Pay Increase Ahead of May 4 Demonstrations":

=13430
And "Worldwide Protests Mark May Day":

=103444
Articles abound about Turkey and readers can access the same English language sources I do.
However, I will highlight just three, "The Battle of Taksim":

=103422
"OUTRAGE":
www.turkishdailynews.com.tr/article.php?enewsid
=103538
And, a VERY IMPORTANT one, to which I will relate other news in a minute, "EU Tightlipped about Eventful Mayday in Turkey":
www.turkishdailynews.com.tr/article.php?enewsid
=103523
Not only is the EU tightlipped, but, as I have shown repeatedly, over and over, ad nauseum in my blogs, a deafening silence about Turkish events from the US, and, very much so, the fake US Left and it's nominal opposition.
This coordination flows BACKWARDS from a policy shift to multilateralism, trilateralism engineered through/with/by the US November 2006 midterm election coup.
The following European source reflects this congruency well.
What is notable about the following is the source, the AUTHOR,
"The Emerging New Middle East":
www.gulfnews.com/opinion/columns/region/10210242.html
It is thus no surprise to me, flowing directly from this old/new found policy congruity, that bloggers throughout the Middle East, uruknet and Layla's blog, are experiencing censorship by google, et.al.
You can expect much more.
Layla circumvented her censorship problem the same way I did, previously, by establishing a second blog, for as long as it will last, and her most recent posting on it, "The Mother of all Battles":
www.arabwomanblues2.blogspot.com/2008/05/premonitory-dream.html
Since Layla and I, and others, raise factual details NOT reported, ignored, spun, omitted, errors of commission, etc., I think I would like to mention WHY, for example, I did NOT note the Longshoreman Union actions in the US on Mayday.
While what they did WOULD have been SYMBOLICALLY nice and important, fact is, this same group of unionists is part of the anti-Saddam and anti-Baath coalition.
Finally, a few related updates.
Remember the Gaza conflict and the EMG/Israel versus BG/PA gas deal on which I reported extensively in previous entries.
Well, "Egyptian Gas Will Supply a Fifth of Israel's Electricity":

As well, following from the above and previous blogs, "3rd Turkish Arab Economic Forum to Begin on June 12" (of course, that's Turkey's Islamic AKP government):

=1093194860
And, as one of many ramifications begun by Turkey's, historic internal upset and struggle, "Turkish Banking Authority Vetoes ABN Amro Handover," due to the fact that they were involved with PKK funding:
www.hurriyet.com.tr/english/turkey/8851545.asp?gid=231&sz=1941
(A footnote to the above.
The rise of Spain's largest bank, mentioned above, Banco Santander, is a very interesting story.
If some independent journalists and researchers around who wish to do some work on that particular subject, I can assure them, they will be well rewarded for their efforts, assuming they aren't killed first.
I was following its murky origins for some time in the WSJ).
Meanwhile, in another production in the Theatre of the Obscene and Absurd, "Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Barzani, to Receive Honorary Degree at Commencement of Washington and Jefferson College," located near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania:
www.washjeff.edu/content.aspx?section=2210&menu_id=517&crumb=518&page_title=current%20Press%20Releases&id=11678
Anyone living within traveling distance needs to PICKET this event and/or organize an internal demonstration and refutation.
Unfortunately, Pittsburgh is a considerable distance away from other major, urban centers, like the Boston-NY-Phila-Wash corridor.
It's not quite, "around the corner."
Maybe, it was chosen for its obscure location.
